Metadata Management Associates is a partnership of experienced consultants devoted to the development of intelligent metadata management solutions and services, particularly in library and digital library environments. MMA consultants have advised or developed systems for a variety of clients, and are particularly focused on providing solutions that enable data to operate fully within the Semantic Web. Specifically, MMA works in the following areas:

• developing management systems to support the aggregation of non-heterogeneous record-oriented, item-level metadata from diverse collections via OAI-PMH; normalizing it, augmenting it, and generally improving the quality; then re-serving the resulting resource-oriented, item-level, aggregated metadata from a central metadata repository for use in building resource-discovery services
• consulting on transforming legacy library data to current web data standards such as Dublin Core or RDA, with the emphasis on repurposing and re-use using Semantic Web technologies
• strategic and tactical planning for building, sharing, distributing, and maintaining metadata
• vocabulary development, registration and maintenance [metadataregistry.org], as well as individual registry installation and deployment, based on our open-source application
• planning and implementation of the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting, for either harvesting/aggregation or exposure of metadata
• consulting on design of project or domain specific metadata schemas and application profiles
